Oh yeah, it’s really cool! I don’t QUITE know how a narrative therapy practice would incorporate trauma embodiment work, but I’m gonna figure that out someday. Narrative therapy for the shame/ cbt for the intrusive fantasies/ embodiment work for the physiological effects of complex ptsd are the ideas running around in my head for a therapy model for detransitioners.
This is really a fantastic approach, not just in the validation of someone’s personal experiences and perspectives but also that exploration of other possible reasons for things happening, etc. Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (from Richard Bach’s “Illusions”): “You are led through your lifetime by the inner learning creature, the playful spiritual being that is your real self. Don’t turn away from possible futures before you’re certain you don’t have anything to learn from them. You’re always free to change your mind and choose a different future, or a different past.”
Those last four words are so easy to get hung up on, but so powerful if accepted even a little bit.
I so appreciate knowing narrative therapy is an actual thing.
